How to convert a PDF file to JPG.
Upload your PDF
Drag your PDF file onto the upload area or tap to browse. On mobile, select from your Files app, iCloud, or Google Drive. The tool accepts any standard PDF - text documents, scanned pages, image-heavy presentations.
Set quality and resolution
Quality controls JPG compression (92% default - sharp and compact). Resolution controls the output pixel dimensions: 2x is the sweet spot for most uses, 4x for print-quality output. The tool renders every page and shows a preview grid.
Download your JPGs
Download individual pages by hovering over them, or hit "Download all" to save every page at once. Each JPG is named with the original PDF filename plus the page number.
When you need to convert PDF to JPG.
Extract images from PDF for presentations
You received a PDF report and need specific pages as images for a PowerPoint or Google Slides deck. Converting the PDF to JPG at 2x resolution gives you clean, embeddable images that look sharp on projectors. Screenshots of PDFs at screen resolution often look fuzzy when scaled up in a slide - this tool renders at the actual PDF vector resolution instead.
Share PDF pages on social media or messaging
WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, and Slack all display JPG inline but handle PDF as a download link. Converting a PDF page to JPG lets recipients see the content without opening a separate viewer. For multi-page documents, convert the key pages and share just those rather than the entire file.
Archive scanned documents as images
Scanned PDFs from banks, insurance companies, and government offices are often locked or DRM-protected. The pages themselves are just images inside a PDF wrapper. Converting them to JPG extracts the content into a universal format that works in any photo viewer, file manager, or cloud storage without a PDF reader.
Convert PDF pages for web or email signatures
Logos, letterheads, and signature blocks are often delivered as PDF from a designer. Web platforms and email clients need JPG or PNG. Converting the PDF at 4x resolution gives you a high-DPI image you can crop to the exact element you need. For logos with transparency, use the PNG merger after extracting.
How the conversion works.
Most online PDF to JPG converters upload your file to a remote server, run a conversion script (usually Ghostscript or ImageMagick), and send back a download link. Your bank statement, tax return, or medical record sits on their infrastructure during that process. Some claim to delete after an hour; others give no guarantees.
This tool takes a fundamentally different approach. It uses PDF.js, Mozilla's open-source PDF rendering library - the same code that powers Firefox's built-in PDF viewer. PDF.js runs entirely in your browser. It parses the PDF structure, interprets fonts and vector graphics, and paints each page onto an HTML Canvas element at the resolution you choose. The canvas then exports as a JPG blob using the browser's native image encoder. Zero bytes of your PDF cross the network.
Resolution and DPI explained
A PDF page has no fixed pixel dimensions - it is a vector format with a page size measured in points (1 point = 1/72 inch). An A4 page is 595 x 842 points. At 1x scale, the canvas is 595 x 842 pixels - equivalent to 72 DPI. At 2x, the canvas is 1190 x 1684 pixels (144 DPI). At 4x, it is 2380 x 3368 pixels (288 DPI). Text documents look clean at 2x. Detailed charts and graphics benefit from 3x or 4x. Going above 4x rarely adds visible sharpness but quadruples file size. If extracted pages are too large, run them through the JPG compressor to reduce file size without re-rendering.
The reverse direction: JPG to PDF
If you need the opposite - combining JPG images into a PDF document - use the JPG to PDF tool on this site. It turns each image into a PDF page with A4, Letter, or fit-to-image sizing. You can also merge the extracted JPGs into a single composite image using the JPG Joiner - useful when you want one image showing multiple PDF pages side by side.
Merge JPG images
Combine extracted JPG pages into one image with vertical, horizontal, or grid layout.

How to convert a PDF file to JPG?
Drop your PDF onto the upload area above. The tool renders every page using PDF.js (the same engine Firefox uses to display PDFs) and exports each page as a separate JPG image. Pick your quality (92% is the default - visually identical to the original) and resolution (2x gives clean results for most documents). Hit "Download all" to save every page at once. The entire conversion runs in your browser - your PDF never leaves your device.
Does converting PDF to JPG lose quality?
It depends on the resolution setting. At 1x, you get the PDF at screen resolution (typically 72-96 DPI) which looks fine on screen but blurry when printed. At 2x (the default), you get roughly 150 DPI - sharp enough for most uses. At 4x, you get 300 DPI which matches print quality. The JPG quality slider controls compression: 92% is nearly lossless, 80% shows minor softening on fine text, below 70% compression becomes visible on detailed pages. For scanned documents, 2x at 85% quality produces clean, compact images.
Can I convert a multi-page PDF to JPG?
Yes. Every page in the PDF becomes a separate JPG file. A 50-page PDF produces 50 JPGs, numbered sequentially (document-1.jpg through document-50.jpg). Processing time scales linearly - expect about 0.5-1 second per page at 2x resolution on a modern laptop. At 4x resolution, complex pages with vector graphics and embedded fonts take 2-3 seconds each. The download button saves all pages at once with a short delay between files so your browser does not block bulk downloads.
Is this PDF to JPG converter free and safe?
Free with no limits and completely private. The tool uses PDF.js, Mozilla's open-source PDF rendering library, which runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF is read into memory from your device, rendered page by page onto a Canvas element, and exported as JPG. No file data is sent to any server. You can verify this: open the browser Network tab (F12) while converting and watch for outgoing file requests. There are none. No signup, no watermark, no daily caps.
How to convert PDF to JPG on iPhone or Android?
Open this page in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android). Tap the upload area and select your PDF from the Files app, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or email attachment. The pages render on your phone and you can download each one individually or tap "Download all." On iPhone, saved JPGs go to your Downloads folder in the Files app - from there you can share them to the Photos app, WhatsApp, or email. No app install needed.
What resolution should I use for PDF to JPG conversion?
For on-screen viewing (presentations, email, web): 1x or 1.5x is enough. The JPGs will be the same resolution as the PDF displayed at 100% zoom. For printing or archiving: 2x gives clean results for text documents. For high-quality graphics, photography portfolios, or posters: 4x produces 300 DPI output that matches print shop requirements. Higher resolution means larger file sizes - a single A4 page at 4x can be 3-5 MB as JPG at 92% quality.
Can I convert a scanned PDF to JPG?
Yes. Scanned PDFs contain embedded raster images (the scanner already captured them as pixels). PDF.js renders these at whatever resolution you set. At 1x you get the scan at its embedded size. At 2x the page scales up, but a 200 DPI scan will not gain real detail beyond its original resolution - the pixels just get bigger. For scanned PDFs, match the resolution to the scan quality: 1x or 1.5x for 200 DPI scans, 2x for 300 DPI scans. Going higher wastes disk space without adding sharpness.
Why use JPG instead of PNG for PDF pages?
JPG files are 5-10x smaller than PNG for the same page. A typical A4 document page is 200-400 KB as JPG at 92% versus 2-4 MB as PNG. For documents with text and simple graphics, the compression difference is invisible at normal viewing. Use JPG for sharing, email, and web. The only reason to choose PNG is if the PDF contains precise pixel art, technical diagrams with single-pixel lines, or content you plan to edit further. For most document-to-image conversions, JPG is the practical choice.
How to reduce the JPG file size from PDF conversion?
Three levers: quality, resolution, and source page complexity. Dropping quality from 92% to 75% typically halves file size with minimal visible difference on text documents. Dropping resolution from 2x to 1x cuts the pixel count by 4x (half width, half height). A 10-page PDF at 2x/92% might produce 4 MB of JPGs total; the same PDF at 1x/75% produces under 500 KB. Start with 1.5x at 80% if you need to hit an email attachment limit.
